Is there much maintenance for the back-pac vacuum cleaners?
Not at all. If you vacuum up what is normally vacuumed (dust, small debris), the only parts replaces are the expendale filters and the cloth bag where the debris is gathered and emptied from. These vacs are virtually  free of maintenance.

Is the Odor Assassin a "masque" or an eliminator?

Odor Asassis is an eliminator...that's right....smoke, cigarettes, skunk, diapers, garbage, embarassing bathroom odors et. al.

Are these the same WORLD FAMOUS PRO-Team Vacs sold to Labor Intensive areas such as hospitals, municipal maintenance people, air plane cleaners, computer room and emergency room cleaners?

Yes.
